The Division of Pulmonary, in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a motivated, friendly and well-organized Life Science Technician II to perform basic functions and activities involved in exciting research projects. This a dynamic and stimulating place to work, focused on excellence in research, education and patient care.

The lab strives to maintain a highly collaborative, dynamic and positive environment. The Life Science Technician II would be a great addition to the team and help with exciting basic and translational experiments that hopefully will result in exciting new therapies for patients.

Duties include:
  • Individual will be responsible for experimental work with cell culture. They will perform skilled techniques in support of lab's research goals, such as: Digestion of tissue samples for cell isolation, centrifugation of digested suspension and pipetting onto culture plates for Cell culture, centrifugation of cell culture suspensions to prepare microscopy slides, incubation of cell slides preparations with antibody solutions for immunofluorescence, evaluation of immunofluorescence slides by Microscopy, acquire digital images and, extract DNA from cell suspensions for PCR analyses.
  • Individual will apply protocols already in place for cell culture. Troubleshooting will involve identifying contamination and identifying antimicrobials to add to the culture conditions to minimize this.
  • Individual will be also in charge of monitoring culture for maturity conditions and identifying samples that do not thrive or mature.
  • Individual will maintain accurate documentation of experimental protocols and perform mathematical analysis of data.
  • Individual is expected to primarily conduct assessment of quality of cultures through evaluation of cell thriving and maturation, both by visual inspection under the microscope and physiologic metrics.
  • Individual will participate in results reports generation and will be given opportunity to contribute to preparation of presentation of results and manuscripts.
  • Individual will keep inventory supplies. Order supplies, as needed and/or requested by the PI.


    Qualifications:

  • At least two years of previous laboratory experience or two years of college coursework in related scientific discipline required. Solid written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated professionalism in working with colleagues (both internal and external laboratory users).
  • Must be capable of and willing to pay strict attention to detail, including following written and oral instruction. Familiarity with the following experimental techniques required: Knowledge of general laboratory techniques such as preparation of solutions, centrifugation, liquating, refrigeration, PCR, ELISA, and other assays desired but not essential as instruction will be provided in specific protocols followed at the laboratory.

  • Experience with human biologic samples processing, including cell culture, is desired but not essential (as instruction in these can be provided) but ability and willingness to learn these techniques is essential.
