Hofstra University’s School of Health Professions and Human Services, Department of Health Professions, invites applications for an anticipated faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Master of Occupational Therapy program beginning in the Fall of 2019.

Hofstra University’s Master of Occupational Therapy program joins our list of growing programs which include:  Master of Public Health, Master of Health Administration, Master of Sport Science, Master of Health Informatics and undergraduate education in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Community Health and Health Science.  This academic position integrates the roles of teacher, researcher and scholarly practitioner within the Occupational Therapy program and provides an opportunity for inter-professional collaboration across an array of health care professions.

The ideal candidate will have experience as a teacher, researcher and practitioner in the field of Occupational Therapy.  Successful candidates will be expected to participate fully in the life of the University, activities of the Department of Health Professions, and continued development and accreditation of the Master of Occupational Therapy program.  Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated clinical or teaching experience in adult rehabilitation, mental/behavioral health, productive aging and/or pediatric rehabilitation. 

Position responsibilities:

  • Teach in various areas of the occupational therapy curriculum
  • Advise students for academic and professional success
  • Mentor students through the scholarly investigation process
  • Develop and maintain scholarly activities and professional involvement
  • Participate in University, department and community service activities
  • Collaborate in the preparation of academic reports and accreditation self-studies
  • Participate in evaluation of teaching methods and curriculum

Qualifications:          

  • Occupational Therapist with earned doctoral degree

(PhD, EdD, OTD or ScD) preferred

  • NBCOT Certification
  • Eligible for licensure in the State of New York
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the collegiate level
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and research experience
  • Experience, or demonstrated potential, in advising and

mentoring students
