Job description

Allegheny College, a small selective liberal arts college located in northwest Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of Accounting Office Assistant. This is a full-time, 12 month, non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Finance.

The position is primarily responsible for processing accounts payable, general accounting tasks, account analysis, preparation of annual 1099-MISC and other annual tax information, preparation of Pennsylvania monthly sales tax report, and preparation of annual accounts payable specific audit schedules. Additional responsibilities will include assisting with general ledger, budgeting, contract coordination, website review, audit preparation, plant property and equipment management, debt accounting, and office support. 

Required qualifications include an Associate Degree in Accounting, plus one to three years’ experience in an accounting office setting; Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, preferred.  Must have good interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to operate efficiently with multiple tasks assigned, and must be highly organized with an attention for detail and confidentiality.  Experience in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel is necessary; knowledge of Ellucian or experience with other mainframe software a plus.
