The Department of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations at Hofstra University’s Lawrence Herbert School of Communication seeks qualified candidates for the tenure-track, full-time position of assistant professor to teach face-to-face and online graduate and undergraduate courses in public relations beginning fall 2019. Applications must be received by February 1, 2019.

Successful candidates must have professional or academic experience, and proficiency in and comfort with teaching both classroom and online courses is a plus. The candidate should be capable of teaching public relations fundamentals, writing, research, media relations, digital communication, and campaigns. The individual hired will take a major role in the development of an online graduate program in public relations or similar field of study.

We are seeking high-energy, accomplished candidates able to work a flexible schedule that may include evening, Saturday and online courses. In addition, full-time faculty are required to provide academic advisement and supervise internships, serve on department, School and University committees, and become active members of the Hofstra community.

Minimum Requirements 

  • Doctorate or terminal degree in communication, public relations or a related area of study
  • Professional experience in public relations
  • College-level teaching experience
  • Willingness to teach online courses
  • Excellent digital communication and writing skills
  • Ability to manage faculty, graduate assistants and multiple roles
