Description:
The Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science intends to fill two (2) Research Engineering Associate I positions to join our Field Operation team. The candidates selected will work as part of an integrated field operations crew under the direct supervision of the Field Operations Supervisor. The candidates selected will learn all aspects of environmental, meteorological, and oceanographic data collection including the installation, maintenance, and repair of data collection systems installed in remote locations along the Northern Gulf Coast. The candidates will be expected to work in a variety of marine environments using vehicles and vessels, in all weather conditions, on or near the water, and often for extended periods of out of town travel. The new team members should have an eagerness to learn all other aspects of field operations including unmanned aircraft and vehicles, terrestrial Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR), becoming certified as a scientific diver, and other field responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance, operation, and repair equipment on-site.
  • Assist with remote and on-site data collection, station installation, station maintenance, and station repair using various hand and power tools.
  • Handle proprietary software packages related to data collection systems and sensors.
  • Assist with the collection of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data.
  • Perform Global Positioning System (GPS) surveys and process through Online Positioning User Service (OPUS) share and OPUS Projects.
  • Handle the Standard Operating Procedures regarding digital leveling process.
  • Utilize various web pages during data QA/QC.
  • Secure Scientific Diver status through TAMU-CC's Dive Safety Officer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience in work related to the civil trades.
  • Knowledge and experience with hand and power tools.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license. Ability to travel extensively, often outside of normal business hours or weekdays, by vehicle and/or vessel often to remote areas of the coast. Extensive and often extended overnight travel will be required.
  • Ability to:
    • Obtain Transportation Workers Identification Credentials -within three (3) months.
    • Complete American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Certification - within six (6) months.
    • Complete US Coast Guard About Boating Safely Course.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field.
  • One (1) year of experience in work related to the civil trades.
  • Experience working in a marine environment.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Experience with environmental data collection systems and sensors.
  • Open water dive certified.
