NURSE PRACTITIONER OR PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

Effective immediately there is a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant position available in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology - Division of Gynecology Oncology - Duke University Durham location.

Occupational Summary
Augment a physician's ability to provide medical services to patients in the clinic, hospital and operating room; perform and document encounters in EPIC electronic medical record, assist in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and consultations.

Work Performed
• Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the data in the patient's record; write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients.
• Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
• Assist in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to aid physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care; record the normal and abnormal data for review by the physician.
• Play a significant role in managing end of life and supportive care issues across the scope of our practice in the inpatient and outpatient settings. In this context, the APP will work closely with both the Gynecologic Oncology and Palliative care teams and play a vital role in timely initiation of goals of care conversations and hospice referrals.
• Participate in teaching students, fellows and residents.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education

Nurse Practitioner
Education/Training: Work requires completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner. State of North Carolina licensure is also required.

Physician Assistant
Education/Training: Work requires a bachelor's degree in Health Science and a Physician Assistant Certificate of Registration with the North Carolina Medical Board or be certification eligible, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.


Experience

Oncology clinical experience preferred.
