Primary Function of Organization Unit: North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperative Extension agents deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina residents. Located in the geographic center of the state, Chatham County encompasses an area of more than 707 square miles and is situated between two of the state's three largest centers of population and commerce, the Triangle Region and the Piedmont Triad. Pittsboro, the county seat located in the middle of the county, is just 20 minutes away from Research Triangle Park, Durham, Cary, and Chapel Hill, in addition to being only 30 minutes away from Greensboro and Raleigh. As such, this gives residents easy access to Raleigh-Durham Airport and major universities such as the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Duke University, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Central University, University of North Carolina-Greensboro, NC A&T State University, and Elon University. Small specialized farms, including organic production and unique nurseries, are important to our local economy. Essential Job Duties: A successful candidate for this position is expected to assess community needs and review data and available resources to plan, develop, conduct, evaluate, and market youth development educational opportunities throughout the county for youth ages 5-18.
Department Required Skills: Computer literacy including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Strong written and oral communication skills. The ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs. Candidates should have excellent time and resource management skills and should be personable and able to build networking coalitions. Travel within the county and district is required. Occasional travel outside the district is required. Willingness to work as a team member and support a comprehensive Extension program.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: A Bachelor's degree in youth or child development or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred. Some 4-H experience or knowledge is preferred. Volunteer recruitment and development experience, as well as program development skills, will be important. Experience and knowledge in mass media, marketing, and presentations. Experience working effectively as a team member and willingness to do so. Skills in leadership, budgeting, and public relations.
