The Computer Science Department

Founded in 1965, the Stanford Computer Science (CS) Department continues to lead the world in computer science research and education. Throughout the past four decades, the Stanford CS Department has influenced society at levels that remain without parallel among academic institutions. Its spin-offs are among the most successful corporate ventures in the world, and many of the leaders in the academic and corporate research world are graduates of the Stanford CS Department.

The School of Engineering, Computer Science Department, seeks an Administrative Manager (AM) to work with the program staff to execute and support the successful operation of our Data Science and AI Affiliates programs. These programs have more than 30 corporate members, 50 affiliated faculty, and generate critical funds to help support the university's research mission in data science, artificial intelligence, and computation.

The successful candidate is highly skilled in providing financial administration for multiple programs, professional, personable, well organized, self-motivated, and able to juggle multiple projects. The position requires someone who is careful, detail-oriented, and able to proofread their own work. There is a need to work effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and business people, including senior corporate executives. The ideal candidate enjoys the full spectrum from strategic thinking, to execution, to follow-through, and is able to work effectively with minimal administrative support.

In this role, you will:
  • Oversee budgets, monitor and approves expenditures, and manage year-end processes.
  • Collect and analyze financial data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Take the lead on sourcing, planning and overseeing all outreach and networking events, including workshops and conferences.
  • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the programs. Act as key contact for corporate affiliate members and University faculty, students, and staff.
  • Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for the programs.
  • Represent the programs within the department and school. May also represent the program or function to external constituencies.
  • Create and maintain marketing materials, brochures and websites.

    To be successful in this position, you will bring:
    • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize own work and multi-task.
    • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
    • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
    • Relevant subject matter knowledge.
    • Ability to direct the work of others, for jobs requiring supervision
