Research Cyberinfrastructure AIS Engineer

Job description

University of California, Irvine

Research Cyberinfrastructure AIS Engineer

Research Cyberinfrastructure AIS Engineer

Under the direction of the Director, Research Cyberinfrastructure Center, the Research Cyberinfrastructure Applications Integration and Support Engineer (AIS Engineer) provides research cyber infrastructure (RCI) support and services to the UCI scientific community. This position is primarily focused on integrating and deploying open-source and commercial scientific applications for use on campus-scale clusters, national-scale supercomputers and cloud infrastructure. Applications are often domain science sources with incomplete documentation and articulation of dependencies. This often requires the AIS Engineer to track down and deploy the required additional components.

An additional responsibility for the AIS Engineer is providing backup system administration support in a Linux environment for cluster and scalable storage.

The AIS Engineer works closely with faculty and graduate students to understand requirements, provide consultation on cyberinfrastructure approaches and to implement techniques, workflows, and associated training to facilitate and accelerate the pace of research where RCI becomes a critical tool.
