Definition

DUTIES

Demonstrates makerspace equipment operation, knowledge, skills, and abilities to students and faculty

Inventories tools & equipment (stocking, restocking, and ordering), including helping facilitate maintenance & repairs

Aids in developing and distributing written/electronic collateral, documentation, and tutorials

Investigates and suggests refinements to hardware/software workflows to fit teaching and research requirements

Helps research and recommend new technologies with department, division, and campus personnel

Tutors, advises, and enforces safety protocols, proper equipment usage, and cleanup/dust mitigation procedures

Keeps records and reports on makerspace activities (usage, time, accidents, and related reports)

Supervises all makerspace users and equipment with the Makerspace Coordinator and faculty

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Works independently using specialized skills at a high level of competence, including development of individual expertise (i.e., taking special interest in personal growth through making and sharing outcomes)

Collaborative mindset for campus and community outreach to promote the makerspace, which may require preparation, demonstrations, and professional dialog that encourages involvement in our campus' maker ecosystem

May be assigned a variety of specialized tasks or assist in completing responsibilities for a segment of the Makerspace work plan, or projects requiring organization, judgment, maturity, or other special qualifications

 

Qualifications and Physical Demands

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Hardware skills: shop tools, digital fabrication equipment (laser cutter, CNC mill, 3D printer, and/or intro to robotics), photography, and audio/video production equipment. Software skills: 2D presentation (Adobe or equivalent), 3D modeling (Rhino or equivalent), CNC machining, and/or audio/video production software.  Prior OCC Training: ARCH 162/163 (3D & Programming), 165 (2D Graphics & Presentation), and/or 170/171/172 (Design Fabrication), or equivalent

 

Conditions of Employment

Hours should be 2-4 days/week @ 5 hours/day for a maximum of 19 hours/week.

Potential schedule could be MTWTh from Noon to 5pm or 4pm to 9pm (flexible).

Fridays could be used as a "make up" day, if the assistant is absent.

 

 

Employment is on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon verification of employment history, background verification as governed under Education Code requirements, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. The hours of work and effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.

 

This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises.
