Degree and Area of Specialization:
Holds a doctoral degree at the time of appointment in a discipline relevant to the unit and position e.g. psychology, human development and family studies, community/environmental planning, public health, social work, American Indian studies, anthropology, education or related disciplines. Graduate students having obtained ABD status are encouraged to apply but employment is contingent upon completion of degree by July 1, 2019.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking to fill one faculty position in Human Ecology as part of a campus-wide cluster hiring initiative to add to the vibrant community of academic researchers at UW-Madison focused on research at the nexus of environment, health, and community in the Native American context. Participating units in this 3 faculty cluster hire include the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, the School of Nursing, and the School of Human Ecology. Tenure home will be in the School of Human Ecology (Department of Civil Society and Community Studies). We seek an action-oriented scholar whose research focuses on Native American youth, their families, and communities. The area of research is open but should emphasize the strengths of Indigenous groups and may include indigenous knowledge systems; traditional ecological knowledge; community/tribal education, health, psychosocial health and wellbeing, housing, and food sovereignty; environmental justice and community sustainability, mass incarceration, etc. While the specific area of research for this position is flexible, the candidate's research should focus on Indigenous peoples with a particular focus on Wisconsin communities (both urban and sovereign nations).
Other desirable attributes include fluency in mixed-methods and community-engaged scholarship. The position requires scholarship, teaching, and service in a department and a program serving undergraduate and graduate students. Successful candidates must have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with an interdisciplinary and collaborative intellectual community. Native American and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will:
-- Help to build community-academic partnerships with tribal/urban Indian communities in Wisconsin.

-- Participate and contribute to the Center for Community and Nonprofit Studies.

CIVIL SOCIETY AND COMMUNITY STUDIES: The mission of the Department of Civil Society and Community Studies in to contribute to knowledge about human behavior that is embedded in community organizations, both formal and informal. In partnership with community groups, schools, and coalitions, we seek to understand the ways in which people come together to effect policy and programmatic change in their communities. The Department is home to a Ph.D. program in Civil Society & Community Research and an undergraduate major in Community & Nonprofit Leadership. It is also the administrative home for the campus-wide Center for Community and Nonprofit Studies.
Center for Community and Nonprofit Studies: The mission of the Center for Community and Nonprofit Studies is to build capacity and knowledge in community and nonprofit studies through the integration of action and applied research, education, outreach and engagement.
SCHOOL OF HUMAN ECOLOGY: The mission of the School of Human Ecology is to understand the complex relationships and interdependence among individuals, groups and families, and to focus on quality-of-life issues through research, creative innovation, education, and outreach. The School has four academic departments (Civil Society and Community Studies, Consumer Science, Design Studies, and Human Development & Family Studies) with a collective undergraduate enrollment of 1,200 students, and 100 graduate students.
