Position Information
The Department of Entomology is a large and complex operation encompassing teaching, extensive research and outreach. Fiscal responsibilities include the management of approximately $20M in appropriations and $11M in expenditures from a variety of state, federal and gift fund sources as of FY17. The department supports ~34 faculty and includes ~240 non-senate academics, postdocs, graduate students, research personnel & administrative staff. As an experienced research administrator, provide leadership and high-level administrative/technical support for contract and grant applications and post-award administration, requiring a thorough understanding of complex regulations. Responsible for complex proposals and awards that may involve multiple investigators and/or multiple sub award recipients. Serve as liaison for faculty and department between Research and Economic Development office and Extramural Fund Accounting. Guide and mentor less experienced staff. Perform complex budget/resource analysis including forecasting, retrieving data from campus financial systems, organizing and validating data, and preparing comprehensive reports for principal management on an ad hoc basis. Minimum Requirements
Five (5) years of related experience.
Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and effectively articulate complex policies and procedures, both orally and in writing.
Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of accuracy in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and to work independently as well as cooperatively in a team situation.
Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audience while ensuring adherence funding sponsor's guidelines,
Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.


Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of UCR's financial systems and research applications.

Knowledge of UC Policies and procedures and on-line campus financial systems.

Extensive knowledge of UC System wide and campus Contacts and Grants policies and procedures.
