About the Position

As a key member of the university management team, under the general direction of the Vice President for Administration and Finance/Chief Financial Officer, the Chief of Police provides the leadership, supervision, and development of law enforcement professionals and support staff. An experienced law enforcement professional with vision and energy who embraces the Universitys shared values and goes beyond what is expected to do what is possible, will be ideal. Provide the vision necessary to successfully lead the University Police Department.

This is a position in the CSU - Management Personnel Plan (MPP), and serves at the pleasure of the President. This position will require adherence to University compliance training such as: Conflict of Interest and Ethics, AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention, Information Security, and Injury and Illness Prevention Program. The person hired for this position may be required to complete an outside employment disclosure statement in accordance with Title V of the California Code of Regulations.

Education and Experience

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in police science, public or business administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of responsible law enforcement experience including five (5) years of recent experience at the command level (Lieutenant or above) in a department of similar size or larger.
- San Jos State University required current POST management certification in California or certification at the management level within a six (6) month period of time

Preferred Qualifications

A Master's Degree or graduation from Command College. Graduation from the FBI National Academy is a plus.
