I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Job Description Summary:

The primary function of the interpreter is to provide interpreting services for students with disabilities, deaf and hard of hearing students, staff, and visitors, in accordance with guidelines of the office of disability support services. Provides classroom interpreting services to students with a disability on a regularly scheduled basis. Provides interpreting services for University convocations, meetings, consultations, and health services as assigned. Educates faculty, staff, and meeting facilitators on the role of the interpreter. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years on-site interpreting experience
• Must be fluent in American Sign Language and spoken English Language
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated expertise in American Sign Language to English interpretation
• Adherence to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Professional Conduct
• Experience with solving difficult, complex problems involving consideration of multiple issues and job areas
