Who We Are: By 2050, the global urban population will nearly double to 6.4 billion. This unprecedented growth in the global urban population creates incredible opportunities but also intensifies the most difficult problems cities face, such as concentrated poverty, crime, poor quality schooling, and health disparities. Job Information

Job Summary:

The UChicago Health Lab is seeking an Embedded Analyst with strong technical and communication skills to work in close partnership with the Illinois Department of Public Health on projects of priority to IDPH. The Analyst will work closely with the Director of IDPH, will work alongside IDPH analysts, and will assist in analyzing health outcomes patterns and trends and preparing briefing materials. Working as part of a larger Health Lab team, the Analyst will enable IDPH to utilize data at its disposal to make informed decisions that meet the needs of the communities across Illinois. The analyst will also provide assistance on projects that are partnerships between the Health Lab and IDPH.

The Embedded Analyst position is a one-year assignment, though there may be an opportunity to extend it subject to funding and project needs.

The Analyst will be embedded in IDPH's loop office but attend meetings in the Urban Labs Loop office and liason with Health Lab leadership frequently.

Responsibilities:

• Analysis of health surveillance data.
• Creation of custom tables, charts, and maps utilizing information from multiple databases.
• Prepare recommendations for director based on guidance.
• Providing technical assistance to IDPH across a range of analytic tools and products.
• Present findings to IDPH staff and partners.
• Other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience or Certifications:

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in economics, sociology, public policy, statistics, computer science, or a closely related field required.
• Advanced degree preferred.

Experience:

• Experience with health surveillance data required.
• Experience working with data to guide decision-making in public policy preferred.
• Experience working with large and complex datasets strongly preferred.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience working with Stata, SAS, R or other statistical programming languages required.
• Experience working with GIS and mapping software preferred.
