Program, prepare, and conduct most of the six concerts in the UTSO season. Supervise graduate student conductors as they manage and lead University Orchestra (the training group for non-majors).Teach classes in conducting and orchestral literature. Select, contract, and host guest conductors, composers, and soloists. Liaise and collaborate with production partners in the Butler Opera Center, New Music Ensemble, Early Music Ensemble, chamber music, bands, and choirs. Engage in leadership and service activities within the ensembles division, the Butler School, and the University. Maintain professional performance activities appropriate for a tenured position at a Tier 1 research university, including visibility as a presenter at professional meetings. This position begins August 2019.
DMA or equivalent professional experience. Demonstrated commitment to preparing young musicians for twenty-first century performing careers via high professional standards, effective rehearsal technique, creative and diverse programming, advocacy and outreach, and active mentoring. A record of successfully teaching and guiding young conductors.
