FULL TIME FACULTY POSITION, Department of Epidemiology

Job description

FULL TIME FACULTY POSITION, Department of Epidemiology
9992/H0218

The Department of Epidemiology at the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH) is seeking applicants to join our vibrant body of faculty researchers and educators. This is an open rank recruitment. The successful candidate will have an established track record of external funding support for epidemiologic research in one of following areas: life-course epidemiology, complex systems leading to disease, social epidemiology, or health disparities. The Department of Epidemiology believes that the cultural and social diversity of our faculty, staff, and students is vitally important to the distinction and excellence of our research and academic programs. We are eager to have join our ranks a colleague who supports our institutional commitment to ensuring BU is inclusive, equitable, diverse, and a place where all constituents can thrive.

Boston University is an AAU institution with a rich tradition dedicated to inclusion and social justice. We are proud that we were the first American university to award a Ph.D. to a woman and we continue that tradition of educating a diverse and talented student body. The School of Public Health takes the University’s commitment even further with its own detailed plan for fostering a diverse and inclusive community. Currently, the Department of Epidemiology consists of 25 primary faculty members who teach 35 courses annually, serving students in the MPH, MS, and PhD programs. Faculty members conduct research supported by NIH, CDC, and other public and private sources in reproductive, perinatal, infectious disease, environmental, aging, cancer, women’s health, and social epidemiology.

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent degree in epidemiology, demonstrated commitment to graduate education and mentorship of students, and outstanding scholarship through publication and externally funded research. They will be expected to lead an independent research agenda, actively engage in collaborative research within the department, BUSPH, and beyond; participate in teaching and mentoring master’s and doctoral-level students; and provide service to the department, university and profession.

The School of Public Health actively seeks to enrich its student and faculty ranks, recognizing that diversity of experience deepens the intellectual endeavor. We seek to embed—within our curricular and co-curricular activities—the principle that pluralism within a learning community is a source of insight and effectiveness.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a curriculum vitae and a cover letter that describes how your scholarship and teaching interests fit within the mission of Department of Epidemiology and how you—through your teaching and/or scholarship—will contribute to our goals to engender a more inclusive and diverse school. Materials should be emailed to Shelley Barnes: [email protected]. The position will remain open until filled.

Boston University is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We are a VEVRAA Federal Contractor.
