Job Description

The College of Arts & Sciences is seeking applications from qualified candidates for an Assistant Professor of Geology beginning in fall 2019. The College seeks excellence in instruction, research, and service.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach the equivalent of three 3 credit hour courses in geology or water resources sciences during fall and spring semesters.
  • Teaching courses for the M.S. degree program in water resources science and technology
  • Teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Conduct scientific research in both laboratory and field environments.
  • Help build and manage a new laboratory.
  • Data collection, analysis, and manuscript writing.
  • Grant proposal writing.
  • Service and committee work at the program, department, college, university, community, and profession levels.


Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in geology and a M.S. in hydrology, or closely-related fields of study from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Must have experience teaching earth science for both science majors and non-majors, environmental geology, hydrogeology, and field camp.
  • Must be a hydrogeochemist that studies the low-temperature geochemistry of aqueous systems with a focus on carbon.
  • Prior experience in publishing peer reviewed scholarly work in analytical chemistry and a promise of growth as a scientist are required.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong self-discipline and ability to work independently.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Ability to interact with students at both undergraduate and graduate levels.


Required Licenses and Certifications:

A Driver's License is required, as frequent site investigation and stakeholder engagement activities are expected for the position.
