The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Virginia Health System is seeking a full-time Open Rank (Assistant, Associate, or Professor) tenure-eligible or tenure-ineligible plastic surgeon specializing in hand surgery to join its academic and clinical faculty. The successful candidate will be willing and able to provide expertise in hand surgery, but also care for the general plastic surgery population. They will join the UVA Hand Center and work alongside another plastic surgeon specializing in hand surgery and four orthopedic hand surgeons. The faculty work with and teach residents and fellows on a daily basis. All ranks will be considered, however the ideal candidate will have previous clinical experience and an established academic record.
Rank and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications. Duties include clinical care; medical supervision of residents; teaching fellows, residents and medical students; and research (if interested).
The tenure-ineligible faculty positions are designed for and require physicians focused on quality clinical care, including active participation in teaching. The tenure-eligible faculty positions are designed for and require physicians with an interest in a balanced career of clinical care, research, and teaching.
Candidates must have: a Doctorate of Medicine; successfully completed an ACGME approved plastic surgery residency; obtained board certification from the ABPS; have successfully completed a hand fellowship and obtained a Subspecialty Certificate in Surgery of the Hand. Additional experience including leadership positions in plastic surgery, teaching at the graduate medical level, and experience with wound care and general plastic surgery is desirable.
