The University of Virginia is revitalizing the Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports and seeks vibrant and engaging leaders at all levels of the organization that will demonstrate a keen understanding of programming in a University setting that also is accountable for a revenue generation, auxiliary business model through excellent student & member services on the UVa Grounds. We seek qualified professionals that demonstrate integrity, accountability, team work and customer service to direct and/or support high quality skills acquisition instructional programs and experiential learning opportunities in diverse departmental programs, facilities and services.

The UVa Director of Outdoor Adventure works as a full-time professional staff member within the Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports, a division of Virginia Athletics. In alignment with Department's mission, the successful candidate will lead and direct all aspects of coordinating comprehensive Outdoor Adventure programs and services including overall administration; recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating wage personnel; financial program management; marketing & promotions; and risk management to ensure programs deliver skills acquisition and experiential learning; financial goals and objectives; staff leadership training; and supporting University/departmental policies, procedures, and personnel. Currently, Outdoor Adventure at UVa consists of operational program elements through instructional and experiential Field Programs; a First Year Summer Orientation Field Program; Poplar Ridge Experiential Learning Center (high and low ropes/challenge course); and a new Equipment Rental Center that includes a recently opened indoor Climbing Center consisting of a 2,000 sf climbing and bouldering wall. As the area leader, the Director of Outdoor Adventure will manage all operations for a comprehensive, educationally-based program on a University campus while planning and making decisions with competence based knowledge, maturity, sound judgment, and a comfort with occasional ambiguity that may require fluid decisions aligned with department mission. This position supervises one full-time Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventure as well as student and non-student wage instructional, facilitation, customer service and climbing wall staff.

Master's degree preferred. Bachelor's required.
