The Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery at Women's College Hospital is inviting applications for the position of Academic General Surgeon.

The effective date of this appointment is November 1st, 2017.

This is a co-recruitment between Women's College Hospital and the University Health Network. The successful candidate will be primarily based at Women's College Hospital, and will be a full member of the Women's College Hospital Department of Surgery practice plan. He or she will have an elective general surgery practice based at Women's College Hospital, and will provide on-call and acute care surgery services at the University Health Network. Operating room time will be primarily at Women's College Hospital. Clinic and office space will also be provided by Women's College Hospital. Other responsibilities include serving as Medical Director of clinical programs in hernia and gall bladder disease, including development of centralized, integrated, team-based programs.

The successful candidate should possess strong leadership and organizational skills, should have a Master's or PhD degree in research, education or management, and should have expertise in hernia and gall bladder surgery. Fellowship training in a subspecialty of general surgery such as minimally invasive surgery is an asset. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, and must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

As a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, Women's College delivers excellence in teaching, research and innovative clinical care. The surgical program is a model for cost-effective, patient centered, innovative ambulatory health care delivery. The Division of General Surgery focuses on breast diseases, endocrine diseases including thyroid, benign anorectal disorders, hernia and gall bladder disease.

Salary will be approximately $200,000 - $400,000 per annum, commensurate with qualifications and experience, based on estimated fee for service billings.
