Job Description

The John J. Cali School of Music seeks a full-time, tenure-track Director of Orchestral Studies. This position will be responsible for conducting and overseeing the orchestras of the School of Music, while also teaching conducting and orchestral literature courses. The John J. Cali School of Music currently maintains an enrollment of approximately 450 music majors in performance, jazz studies, music education, and music therapy, with an orchestra numbering 80 members that performs diverse repertoire of orchestral, operatic, and oratorio music from the Baroque to the present. The presence of a graduate string residency program and the renowned Shanghai String Quartet present exciting opportunities for the incumbent of this position to shape the future of an orchestral program with a rich tradition of excellence.



Qualifications & Requirements

The minimum degree qualification is the possession of a Master of Music degree. Candidates must demonstrate substantial professional experience as music director, associate conductor, or assistant conductor with high-level symphony orchestras (group 1, 2, or 3), in addition to successful experience teaching at an advanced level. Candidates must also possess a commitment to the recruitment of high-caliber students. Exemplary musicianship, innovative pedagogical skills, and evidence of ongoing performance or scholarship are required.



Salary Range
Commensurate with experience.
