The Cancer Center at the University of Virginia, School of Medicine, is looking for multiple Clinical Research Coordinators, who are licensed RNs, (CRC, Licensed) to assist with the coordination and management of clinical trials in cancer.
The incumbent performs a full range of clinical research duties and has a working knowledge of the clinical research process and the regulations that govern it. As a Registered Nurse, the incumbent performs patient-related care independently, including medical assessments, symptom management, and referrals within the scope of their licensure. This position performs progressively more complex and comprehensive clinical research duties at an ever-increasing level of independence, working closely with the Principal Investigator, and has the authority to adapt methods and procedures to meet the needs of the clinical trial. The incumbent focuses on the long-term goals of each clinical research trial and process and may supervise some staff.
The Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator is responsible for coordination of complex and comprehensive trials for hematolgoy oncology including acute leukemia and stem cell research. These trials may expand across multiple disciplines (i.e., radiation oncology, etc.), both in and outpatient settings, and may include phase I trials in many correlative studies. Coordination includes screening and accrual of patients, administering treatments as appropriate, managing toxicities, and collecting and documenting patient information pertinent to the trial in the patient's electronic medical record as well as in the clinical research files. The nurse also coordinates the visit days of the patient on study to ensure protocol compliance. The incumbent serves as a resource for nursing (outpatient, inpatient, home care), medical staff, and other clinical research staff. This position leads a solid tumor disease team.
An Associate's degree or higher in Nursing, current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia by appointment start date, and at least one year of clinical experience are required. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing, more than two years of clinical research experience, including administration of investigational agents, coordination of multiple, complex clinical trials, and human subject protection training are preferred.
This position is restricted and is contingent upon the continuation of funding.
