POSITION: A full-time university staff position is available in Facilities beginning as soon as possible. The official title for this assignment is Power Plant Operator with a working title of Boiler Operator. This is an expected-to-continue assignment, which requires a twelve-month probationary period during which all operational aspects of the heating plant will be learned. The hourly hiring salary is up to $19.87 per hour (commensurate on experience) plus shift differential and full benefits.

• High School Diploma
• Valid Wisconsin driver’s license
• General computer and keyboard skills
• Physical ability to walk, stand, sit, lift, and climb ladders
• Strong mechanical background
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
• High level of dedication to quality service by interacting directly with students, staff or other external customers
• Able to maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive information

• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness
• Willingness to learn position fundamentals via hands-on, classroom, and computer training methods
• Underground Storage Tank Class C certification
• American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE) Third Class Operators License
• Understanding of heating plant systems including boiler and steam system operations and maintenance
• HVAC experience
• Steam boiler experience

DUTIES: This entry level position is responsible for assisting and learning the operation, monitoring, and/or maintenance of coal, gas and/or oil-fired boilers, and related auxiliary equipment in compliance with all applicable regulations and utilizing appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Positions allocated to this level perform a full range of duties under close progressing to limited supervision by the Power Plant Superintendent(s).
