Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NC State Veterinary Hospital (VH), established in 1983, is one of the highest rated veterinary academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina as well as many other states. The hospital staffs over twenty clinical services with board-certified specialists that are nationally and even internationally renowned, ensuring the VH is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine. Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care. Each year, nearly 25,000 patients are treated in the VH. The VH provides compassionate care, state of the art specialty health care, and expert clinical instruction for 4th year veterinary students from College of Veterinary Medicine, and ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine.
Essential Job Duties: Medical Laboratory Technologists are responsible for the implementation of new laboratory offerings, performing QC testing on equipment and maintaining records for the laboratory. This position is also responsible for preparing for safety inspections and waste removal, and assessing and maintaining inventory for the lab. They will also perform routine diagnostic testing that include molecular diagnostic assays and bacterial identification.
Department Required Skills: Working experience performing microbiology and molecular techniques using aseptic technique. Capable of designing primers and probes. Must communicate effectively with all lab personnel Work effectively and efficiently with others but also take the initiative to work independently and in a timely manner.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Master's degree in related field. Experience with laboratory testing and analysis. Experience with testing in microbiology and/or molecular biology. Capable of functioning as a clinical laboratory technician. Understands laboratory equipment and processes. Competent in establishing SOPs compliant with both State and Federal regulatory agencies. Collegial and committed to growth in the laboratory and laboratory personnel Able to conduct scientific literature searches and interpret documents.
