Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NCSU Libraries serves as the gateway to recorded knowledge and information for the NC State community and its partners, offering a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining the best faculty and students to the university. The User Experience department (4 librarians, 2 developers, 3 support staff) is responsible for the strategic management of the Libraries' web presence including design and development of web content and applications. The Libraries' award-winning website provides contextual, just-in-time information to facilitate user experience with spaces, services, collections, programs, and events. The department engages in user research, adopts developments and insights from the broader realm of user-experience research, and strives for user-centered design to create a consistent experience across the Libraries' many touch-points in both physical and online spaces. Essential Job Duties: The User Experience Librarian responsibilities include: * Collaborates with stakeholders and developers to create intuitive, accessible, user-friendly interfaces for the web, mobile devices, and digital signs * Develops wireframes, prototypes, and task flows based on user needs, and works with developers on their implementation * Helps NCSU Libraries further establish visual and brand identity * Develops content strategy, information architecture, and a web style guide * Serves as a project manager * Manages workflows for ongoing maintenance of web products and services * Contributes to the Libraries' user research and applies findings to make improvements * Participates in library planning; serves on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams * Expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field

Minimum Education/Experience: ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or other relevant advanced degree

Department Required Skills: * Knowledge of best practices in user experience design * Experience with current, standard web development languages, content management systems, and tools * Experience with design, prototyping, and wireframing tools (e. g., Balsamiq, Illustrator, Lucidchart) * Ability to manage workflows and projects * Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, orally and in writing * Ability to work independently and in a team environment * Ability to learn and use new technologies * Commitment to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion * Evidence of potential for ongoing professional development and contribution

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Experience with Drupal * Experience with usability testing and other user research methods * Experience using web analytics to inform decisions
