The Department of Special Education and Disability Studies is seeking candidates for an Assistant/Associate Professor in Special Education and Disability Studies with an emphasis in Interdisciplinary Secondary Transition Services (Tenure, Academic Year Appointment), beginning August 2019. The University seeks to attract an active, culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber and has a strong commitment to achieving diversity among faculty and staff.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Successful candidates will be expected to teach core graduate level courses in Special Education in the Interdisciplinary Secondary Transition Services program (online), the Secondary Special Education programs, and the Special Education & Disability Studies doctoral courses with diverse student populations. The candidates will be expected to collaborate in the administration of the Interdisciplinary Secondary Transition Services programs and advise masters and doctoral students. In addition, the candidates will participate in related program development responsibilities aligned with the Department of Special Education and Disability Studies. The candidates will be expected to maintain and seek external funding to provide graduate education and research opportunities in transition services. The new faculty member will be expected to develop and maintain a research agenda, and contribute to the university and community through service activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

All applicants must have:

1. EdD/PhD (or completed by date of appointment) in Special Education or a related field with an emphasis in Interdisciplinary Secondary Transition Services;
2. A demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level with diverse student populations in a similar program, as evidenced by written peer and/or student evaluations;
3. Knowledge and an understanding of the continuum of needs presented by transitioning youth with disabilities and their families, as evidenced by scholarly work and/or emerging relevant research; and
4. At least three years of experience in the field of secondary transition services, applying emerging knowledge bases in the design and implementation of programs and services.

The Department of Special Education and Disability Studies houses four master's degree programs, several certificate programs and both Educational Specialist and Doctoral Degree Programs.

The Interdisciplinary Secondary Transition Services program is a non-licensure program that provides critical knowledge and experience in the ever-emerging field of secondary transition based upon legislative requirements, research, and evidence-based practices. The program includes the Interdisciplinary Secondary Transition Services master's program where students can specialize in Autism or Brain Injury, a Transition Special Education certificate, and a Brain Injury: Transition Services Certificate.
