Research Technician II

Occupational Summary
Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in assisting with and
conducting laboratory procedures in support of the Duke University Center for Genomic
and Computational Biology (GCB) Sequencing and Genomic Technologies Shared
Resource. The applicant would report to the Associated Director.

Work Performed
Perform a variety of complex technical duties assisting in the daily operations of a Next-
Generation Sequencing laboratory. Responsibilities include preparation and processing
of samples submitted by the lab's customers for various types of DNA
sequencing. The candidate will be trained in the use of instrumentation in the lab with
the object of operation and maintenance of the instruments in an
independent manner. The applicant must be meticulous and detail oriented, as
several thousands of individual samples pass through the lab each year. Good customer
relations are also needed.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training:
Work requires a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other life science related
field.

Experience:
Bench experience with DNA Sequencing and Next-Generation sequencing library
preparations is an advantage, as is any experience working in a Core type facility.

Skills: Basic computer skills, lab and time management.
