    DESCRIPTION

We are currently accepting applications for fellowship positions in the Department of Radiological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center, for the academic year 2020-2021. The Department offers fellowships in seven different subspecialty areas, for advanced clinical training.

Musculoskeletal Radiology fellowships are at the Health Sciences Clinical Instructor level, one position is based at Long Beach Veterans Administration, and will have the benefits and privileges of this position through the University of California, Irvine.

Our mission, within the Department, and in a broader context as a University of California School of Medicine campus, is to provide an excellent educational experience so as to produce highly trained fellows who will go on to become leaders in their subfields. We believe that we provide an optimal combination of study volume, procedure volume, experience with sequencing/protocoling, academic time, and optional research time, to produce very knowledgeable, balanced radiologists, with cutting edge knowledge of their subspecialties and provides experience in image-guided interventional orthopaedic procedures, including arthrography, joint aspiration, soft tissue and bone biopsy techniques and orthopaedic pain management procedures (steroid and anesthetic injections). Experience is available in vertebroplasty. Advanced training is provided in interpretation of musculoskeletal radiography, CT and MRI. Five other faculty members of radiology at VA Long Beach Medical Center will be supervising this fellowship.

This MSK fellowship is separate from the MSK fellowship at UC Irvine Medical Center. However, the VA Long Beach Medical Center radiology training, including the MSK fellowship, is affiliated with UC Irvine. The graduating fellow from our program will get their certificate of fellowship training from the Department of Radiology. Each month, eight UC Irvine Radiology residents rotate at our VA Long Beach Medical Center. The medical center is highly enriched with imaging of pathological conditions in orthopedics, sport medicine, rheumatology and other medical conditions. The opportunity also exists for the MSK fellow to learn neuro and body MRI from experts in these subspecialties as well.

Successful applicants will be Health Sciences Clinical Instructors at the VA Long Beach Medial Center. The fellows will participate in the teaching of UC Irvine residents and medical students, actively participate in interdisciplinary conferences, and take an active part in the ongoing research projects and publications of the section.
