The Associate, Recruitment and Retention is a part-time position supporting efforts in the School of Education to recruit future teachers and retain current students. If successful, this person will provide capacity to the Director, Student and Partner Engagement and the Associate, Student Communication and Engagement in key projects related to future teacher recruitment and retention. An ideal skill set includes strong project management skills, an ability to communicate one on one and in whole groups on message, strong organizational and record keeping skills, a strict adherence to confidentiality policies, and independent initiative. This position reports to the Director, Student and Partner Engagement. Responsibilities are outlined and include:

Do direct outreach to recruit future teachers and retain existing students, including (40%)

  • Setting up and executing classroom visits at local community colleges and schools to promote our program
  • Taking one on one meetings with prospective candidates to support them in completing the application and enrollment process
  • Doing direct outreach through phone, text, and email to prospective students
  • Logging data on prospective student interactions into tracking systems
  • Support the organization and record keeping of grant based recruitment activities in soft and hard copy
  • Other duties as assigned

Provide project execution support on Changemaker Clubs launching in January (30%)
  • Provide logistical support to the Director, Partner and Student Engagement on the launch of eight clubs on eight middle school and high school campuses
  • Provide communications support to participating teachers and students
  • Other duties as assigned

Coordinate a School of Education Book Award for Future Teachers (15%)
  • Identify points of contact at each campus assigned for a book award and ensure they have communication around the award, their role, and how to identify the winners
  • Manage and log information about identified Book Award Winners
  • Coordinate all materials and supplies needed to execute the award (book plates, certificates, and a banner or sign)
  • Schedule School of Education Faculty or Staff to attend the Awards Night and present the award

Cultivate the Charles Butt Aspiring Teacher Scholarship Cohorts (15%)
  • Bring together the current 2018 cohort of Charles Butt Scholars twice a semester to ensure they are getting needs met and to help identify ways they can plug into leadership opportunities and take advantage of professional development funds
  • Support the selection process for the 2019 university based cohorts by coordinating an interview prep day, supporting communication, and ensuring our team meets deadlines defined

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in BS, Interdisciplinary Studies or related field
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Previous experience doing recruitment or retention work at the university level
  • At least 15 weeks of K-12 classroom experience as a student teacher, para-professional, substitute, volunteer, or teacher of record
  • Strong 1:1 communication
  • Experience presenting information to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge and adherence to policies regarding confidentiality around student records
  • Evidence of taking independent initiative to plan and complete assigned tasks

Physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions
Work requires travel to different locations. There may be some walking, standing, bending, or lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
