Job Description:

SUMMARY

Provides didactic, pre-clinical, laboratory, clinical instruction, and evaluation in the Dental Hygiene Clinic. Coordinates and evaluates student clinical experience. Maintains and enforces accepted infection control, health and safety accepted industries practices. Monitors quality assurance to ensure continued accreditation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides didactic, pre-clinical, laboratory, clinical instruction, and evaluation in the Dental Hygiene Program


  • Assists with the development and updating of policies and procedures related to the Dental Hygiene Clinic


• Participates in clinical enrichment activities as directed

• Ensures the timely scheduling and coordination of client clinic-related requests, clinical maintenance, group assignments, student responsibilities, and related community outreach activities

• Maintains, interprets, reports and presents necessary clinical statistics as a part of the Quality Assurance Program

• Ensures that all necessary materials and equipment used in the clinic are in stock, in operational condition and readily available for safe and effective use

• Manages maintenance scheduling to ensure the continued operation of the equipment in the operatory, classroom, radiographic rooms, darkroom and the dispensary

• Coordinates and communicates safety policies and procedures for the Dental Hygiene Program to maintain compliance with regulatory laws and guidelines

• Assists with the planning, preparation and monitoring of program-related budgets

• Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

• Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene, Health Science, Education or a related field and a minimum of three years of demonstrated dental hygiene clinical experience

• Registered Dental Hygienist with current Ohio license to practice Dental Hygiene with the ability to administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide in Ohio

• Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department

• Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

• Possess comprehensive knowledge of dental hygiene theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

• Possess strong organizational and time-management skills

• Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

• Ability to promote student success

• Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently

• Ability to effectively respond to requests from multiple levels of the College in various departments

• Demonstrated intermediate project management skills

• Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Blackboard (or equivalent program)

• Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Banner (or equivalent program)

• Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

• Master's Degree in Dental Hygiene, Health Science, Education or a related field

• Demonstrated teaching experience in a higher education environment

• Demonstrated experience with development of distance education courses
