The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) seeks a motivated, qualified individual to serve as a compliance Administrator in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP). Reporting to the Associate Dean of ORSP, the successful candidate will provide regulatory subject matter expertise and support for the chairs in the human subjects protection program (HRPP), the Animal Care and Use Program (ACUP), and the Biosafety program. In addition, the successful candidate will show a record of willingness and ability to become a subject matter expert in the other areas.
The Research Integrity and Compliance Administrator will help to continue and expand WVSOM’s compliance program that facilitates research and ensures compliance with all state, federal, and local regulations and requirements. The candidate will do so with a team oriented, collaborative approach.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews and approves project initiation requests
- Requests and tracks Significant Financial Conflicts of Interest Disclosures (SFID) and CITI training
- Serves as IRB, IACUC, and Institutional Biosafety Committee administrator, supporting the Committee chairs
- Conducts internal compliance audits and reports to appropriate Committee Chair
- Monitor and interpret Federal, State, and local regulations and guidance related to IRB, IACUC, IBC and other research integrity and compliance areas.
- Collaborate with the Grants administrator during review of sponsored research or other research.
- Makes non-human subjects research determinations and exemption determinations
- Prepares and tracks Individual Investigator Agreements and IRB Authorization Agreements
- Manages and tracks compliance committee appointment letters and terms
- Maintains PRIMR membership, attends trainings, and keeps up to date on regulatory changes and guidance
- Manages assurances and Federal Wide Assurance (FWA) for compliance committees including report submission
- Assists partners with registration and FWA applications
- Tracks protocols and develops new forms and work flow in IRBManager
- Assists with the development of policies and procedures
- Conducts intake interviews to train new employees on research policies and procedures
- Creates and posts training materials and guidance documents the research web page
- Maintains radiation and other research licenses, in collaboration with the Laboratory Animal Coordinator
- Manages export control review
- Maintains database of research projects, including individual required research trainings, expirations, and updates
- Supervises research safety officer component of research lab coordinator position
- Other related duties as assigned or directed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- A broad understanding of either HRPP, ACUP, Biosafety, Export control, or other research integrity and compliance areas
- Demonstrated ability to learn new skills

- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to work independently and take self-initiative with projects.
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize many different tasks, set deadlines and complete projects in a timely manner.
- Organizational and time management skills required to manage multiple projects, reports, requests, and work load.
- Ability to work independently and carry out assignments without detailed instructions.
Education and Experience
- Successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree; designation of CIP or CPIA preferred
- At least 1-2 years’ experience interpreting policy, preferably in an academic setting
- At least 3 years of Administration experience
- Training will be provided, however a strong understanding of computers is required. Part of the position requires learning some of the unique process that WVSOM has, as well as learning skills related to the position.
An equivalent combination of relevant and recent experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Compensation: This is a full-time, non-classified position; it is exempt from FLSA regulations concerning overtime; base salary is $40,000.00 though commensurate with education and experience, plus a full state benefits package.
Not all activities of this position occur within the confines of an 8:00-4:30 schedule and may require evening and weekend scheduling as needed. The weekly schedule for this position will be established between the supervisor and the employee and approved given the needs of the department and the institution.
This position has been designated as Essential. This means that when WVSOM is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover and continue operations at WVSOM.
