Assistant/Associate Director of Annual Giving (Reunion) (December 2018)
The Assistant/Associate Director of Annual Giving is part of a team responsible for raising more than $11 million annually in direct support of Washington and Lee University’s operating budget. The primary responsibility of this position is maximizing annual fund gifts to Washington and Lee through management of the Reunion Giving Program.
Status: Full-Time, 12 Month, With Benefits
Work Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours
Salary: Salary Commensurate with Experience
Essential and Related Functions:
- Oversees the Reunion Giving efforts for the spring Reunion classes: 15th-40th (excluding the 25th Reunion).
- Leads Annual Giving colleagues in the management of the 5th and 10th Reunion classes while personally managing the 15th, 20th, 30th, 35th, and 40th Reunion classes.
- Conducts the solicitation of leadership level ($2,500+) multi-year Reunion commitments from alumni celebrating milestone Reunions through face-to-face visits (goal of 25 visits each fiscal year).
- Develops detailed plans and timelines for recruitment, training and the management of Reunion volunteers.
- Establishes Reunion Giving calendar including Reunion committee conference calls and the planning and execution of Reunion communications including solicitations and stewardship (print and email).
- Collaborates with annual giving colleagues and advancement operations colleagues on both internal and external reporting functions (volunteer portal).
- Serves as a liaison to the Alumni Affairs Office on Spring Reunion activities. Attends all regular Reunion planning meetings with the Assistant/Associate Director of Alumni Affairs.
- Leads production of the Reunion Honor Roll and Young Alumni Reunion Honor Roll publication and distribution.
- Provides assistance to the Director and other development team members as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

A bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced degree is preferred. The assistant/associate position level is dependent on the applicant’s qualifications and level of experience. Fundraising or related experience is desired with a minimum of two years for assistant and a minimum of four years for associate. The ideal candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. A commitment to excellent job performance and teamwork is essential as is a record of success in fundraising and a willingness to travel and work with potential donors. The ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines while cultivating relationships with volunteers is critical to success. Evening and some weekend work is required.

Types of Work:

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
