General Summary of Responsibilities: The Department of Middle Grades, Secondary, Reading and Deaf Education seeks applicants for a non-tenure track, faculty position for the 2019-20 academic year. Teaching responsibilities include graduate-level courses in middle grades education, secondary education, curriculum and instruction, and/or teacher leadership as well as undergraduate courses for preservice middle grades education, including pedagogical methods for teaching social studies. Delivery formats include on- and off-campus as well as online. Other required responsibilities include supervising field experiences and clinical practice; fostering relationships with teachers and administrators across the state, and supporting schools within the region; mentoring candidates of diverse cultures and backgrounds; collaborating in curriculum and instructional development and implementation; and engaging in service activities within the University, College, Department as well as the local community. Required Qualifications: Doctorate degree from an accredited institution in middle grades education, secondary education, social studies/history education, curriculum and instruction, or closely related discipline; at least 18 graduate hours of social studies, history, or social science education coursework sufficient for accreditation purposes; and at least 3 years of successful teaching experience in the social sciences at the middle grades level (4th-8th) or secondary level (6th-12th) in United States public schools; demonstrated expertise in technology use and integration for teaching.
