The Young Writers Workshop of the University of Virginia, established in 1982 as the nation's flagship program for teenage writers, is in its fourth decade of bringing together a community of writers from across the country and beyond its borders with a common purpose: to create a supportive, non-competitive environment where writers in grades 9-12 can live and work together as artists.
Sponsored by the Curry School of Education, the Young Writers Workshop is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Administration. Responsibilities include the following: Respond to daily communications (mail, phone, email); operate database functions required for the student application process and alumni archives; assist in staff orientation week and registering program applicants; coordinate student transportation schedule; coordinates special event planning; support administrative functions of the summer program office; be a liaison to the summer program's host institution; manage fiscal administration; interact with program participants to support their positive experience; maintain a daily communications log; attend administrative staff meetings, and follow up on all requisite identified tasks.
Applicants must have: a Bachelors of Arts Degree; administrative and/or teaching experience in a writing program; experience in working with adolescents or in organizations serving adolescents' learning and development; word processing and database maintenance experience; strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, and sound judgement to represent the program to clients (parents of applicants, media representatives, program partners).
Preferences include: MT, M.Ed., or MFA degree; interest in literary arts; arts organization affiliations
The Assistant Director of Administration is full-time position for 6 weeks in the summer (June 17- July 28)
