The Staff Graduate Assistant receives a stipend and tuition waiver subject to federal tax.

Job Description: The role of the Health Administration Graduate Assistant (GA) is to assist the director with program development and maintenance activities, planning and implementation of special events and research projects, data analysis and program enrollment. The GA must be able to work a minimum of 12 daytime hours, Monday-Thursday. Although the GA's assignments will largely be determined by the needs of the Program, every effort will be made to match the GA's interests, skills, experience, and abilities with the appropriate and desired tasks. Preference for hire will be given to Health Administration graduate students and students with experience in data programming and working with large administrative datasets.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

In consultation with one or more staff or faculty members, assist in the support of the affairs of a program, department, office and/or curriculum.

Other departmental related duties as required.

Examples of Activities and Projects:

  • Participate in aspects of interdisciplinary research projects:
    • Conduct literature reviews
    • With training, collect and analyze data for interdisciplinary research projects
    • Disseminate research findings and implications (i.e. reports, conference presentations, presentations to community stakeholders)
  • Develop recruitment plans for potential students (graduate and undergraduate)
  • Prepare promotional materials and special event announcements
  • Assist with organizing and carrying out Program events
  • Assist with developing and implementing program initiatives
  • Assist with preparing, collecting, analyzing, and disseminating surveys and other program evaluations
  • Assist with data analysis and preparation of Program Review and other Program reports
  • Assist with meetings and be active member of committees

  • Qualifications

    Ability to work up to 20 hours per week (10 for 50%) is required.

    GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.

    Admission and enrollment in a graduate program is required.

    Maintenance of a 67% course completion is required.

    Enrollment in at least 6 credits for Fall and Winter semesters is required.

    Desired Skills: Effective interpersonal and written communication skills, analytical abilities, knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), rapid and accurate keyboarding, organizational skills, familiarity with library resources and search tools.

    Characteristics: The GA needs to be self-motivated, able to take initiative, and perform well with minimal supervision. Outstanding candidates will also be flexible, passionate about service, energetic and enthusiastic, hardworking, creative, comfortable with the unfamiliar, accountable, reliable, friendly, open and honest, focused, and willing to learn.

    Supplemental Information

    Full Time: 20 Hours/Week

    For a full-time GA appointment, the University provides a tuition scholarship for up to 18 credit hours in each academic year (September 1 to August 31) of the assistantship.

    For graduate assistants who are appointed to part-time positions and for GAs who begin employment after the start of the semester, the number of credit hours covered by the award will be prorated.
