Reporting to the Executive Director of Construction Services as a member of the project management team within Facilities Management and Planning. This position plays a critical role in the oversight of project management of capital projects and renovations on the Charles River Campus. Projects include large and complex new construction and renovation projects as well as major utility infrastructure, maintenance projects and minor renovations. Work with the Executive Director on overall policies and processes concerning construction project management toward successful delivery of scope, budget and schedule. Assist in the development of a thorough and ongoing understanding of the Boston construction industry and various construction project delivery methods to inform strategic decisions on delivery process for all projects. Oversee the project Manager and Project Coordinator in the management of small scale projects.

This position, under the oversight of the Executive Director, is responsible for providing management direction in the areas of:

1. Construction Project Management throughout the project life cycle
2. Oversight of one Project Coordinator and one Project Manager
3. Consultant and contractor selection and oversight
4. Coordination with Planning, Operations and Maintenance, Energy and Utilities, Parking, Finance and Administration and Client Services units to assure integrated delivery of facilities services
5. Project management of large to small scale renovations
6. All other functions as assigned by the Executive Director
7. Assist in the implementation of LEED best practice objectives on all project

Construction Project Management: Provide management direction and oversight for project management services of assigned construction projects, with specificity in the validation, construction and close-out to University departments to achieve construction projects that are on schedule, within budget, high- quality, cost-effective and appropriate to client program needs. Responsible for delivery of assigned projects within budget, on schedule, and in adherence with University guidelines, financial control and oversight, standards of excellence, quality and requirements of management resources. Resolve issues and/or disputes as required. Report on a regular schedule status of assigned projects on the basis budget, schedule, quality and coordination. Provide the required level of financial control, cost, managerial, schedule and quality control on assigned projects continually through the project life cycle. Assist management leadership in the selection process that maximizes quality and control costs of consultants and contracts. Advise on best practices for project delivery methods applied to capital projects. Support the capital budgeting process by ensuring that appropriate procedures are followed to deliver high-quality accurate project and construction cost estimates for all projects. Develop and maintain productive relationships within the University including working effectively with peers to meet the overall objectives in setting and executing the Construction Services strategic mission, priorities and resource allocation to maximize client satisfaction.

Project Management of Smaller Scale Renovations: Provide management direction, leadership and oversight to the Project Manager and the Project Coordinator for construction administration, of large to small scale projects, as well as compliance with University policy and regulatory agencies for work. Work closely with the Project Manager and Project Coordinator and various University groups outside of Facilities Management on the coordination of these projects (EHS, IT, Tel-Data, BUPD, Parking Services, Auxiliary Services, Housing, etc.) Provide project management and oversight on projects to abate environmental hazardous materials (i.e. asbestos, lead paint, etc. Perform all additional duties as directed by the Executive Director Work closely with the Associate Director from project conception and assignment through pre-construction on all projects to insure a seamless flow into project execution. Matriculation and Move In-Play an integral role in the set-up of Matriculation and Move in to include: managing student help, laying out seating; coordinating vendor set-ups and other responsibilities as assigned. Commencement-Play an integral role in the set-up of Commencement sites to include: managing student help; laying out seating; coordinating vendor set-ups, and other responsibilities as assigned. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are extremely important. Ability to communicate tactfully within the University is necessary. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills are required. Conflict resolution skills are also required. The employee in this position must be extremely flexible with the ability to give clear direction and instruction in often trying situations. This position has supervisory role in addition to project management responsibilities.
