The successful candidate will:

• teach the composition sequence;
• develop composition curriculum aligned with student-centered pedagogy and subject area outcomes;
• take an active role in student advising, placement, and acceleration programs;
• participate in curriculum alignment with ESOL and developmental writing and reading classes;
• engage in service-related activities for the department, campus, and college;
• maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to students and colleagues;
• attend department, division, and college-wide meetings, inservices and events;
• take a leadership position in college, divisional, and program committees, teams, and task forces.

• The Bellwether Review is the Rock Creek campus literary magazine, offering poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and artwork in an annual issue each spring.
• Groundswell: A Conference of Student Writing: Each spring students present their original creative and academic writing on a range of topics.
• The Rock Creek Writing Center helps PCC students from all disciplines and writing levels achieve their writing goals.
• Our faculty balance teaching with active conference and workshop participation as well as scholarly and creative publications in poetry, fiction, film, literature, composition theory, and creative-nonfiction.

PCC Rock Creek Student Population

The Rock Creek Campus serves many students from neighboring Washington County, the second most populated county in the state with over 500,000 residents. Washington County is home to an increasingly diverse population, having the highest percentage of Asians (10%) and Latinx (17%), including cities with thriving and growing Latinx communities, such as Hillsboro and Forest Grove (each 24% Latinx).Our composition classes represent a diverse population as well: Latinx (15%), Asian (8%), multi-racial (7%), African American (4%), and foreign nationals (3%).

PCC Rock Creek Campus

One of four main campuses that comprise Portland Community College. 256-acres about 12 miles west of downtown Portland in the growing Beaverton-Hillsboro area. Serves approximately 12,000 students in the 2017-18 academic year, including approximately 300 exchange students, and is led by President Dr. Chris Villa.A sanctuary college, including Oregon's first and only DREAM Center, which provides a safer space for our Undocumented/DACAmented community. Houses the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) program, a federally-funded program that provides students with financial assistance and support services. Includes a working farm, with sheep, cows, alpacas, rabbits, goats, horses, chickens, and a collection of dogs and cats from our highly regarded Vet Tech program.Promotes interdisciplinary academic achievement, leadership development and sustainable food systems through the Rock Creek Learning Garden.

Candidate Profile
These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications. In addition, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in:

• collaborating effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds PCC Diversity;
• composition theory and student-centered pedagogy, including culturally relevant teaching practices resonant with our campus population PCC Demographics;
• leadership both in department and college service work;
• language(s) other than English, ESOL instruction and/or accelerated curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked). Education: MFA, MA, or PhD in English, Literature, or Rhetoric/Composition, OR an MA or PhD in an interdisciplinary field with a minimum of 30 graduate quarter credit -hours in one or a combination of English, Literature, or Rhetoric/Composition.Experience: Have taught at least four college-level composition classes or have equivalent college classroom experience through a mentoring or internship program.





Salary:
Initial Salary Placement up to Step 3 ($56,274) will be based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.
