The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine's Department of Public Health Sciences has an exciting career opportunity for a Manager, Sponsored Programs.This position oversees the administrative and financial aspects of the Sponsored Programs Division. The Manager, Sponsored Programs operates with the objective of increasing sponsored funding levels and the output of funding proposals as well as maximizing the use and efficacy of existing research funding dollars.

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:
  • Overseeing and managing all grant-related activities throughout every stage of the funding process, from application submittal, through post-award, interim reporting requirements and final account closing and reporting procedures. Reporting any significant issues and/or problems directly to the Director of Research Support.
  • Working closely with ORA to keep abreast of changes in the University of Miami's institutional policies and requirements as related to grants and contracts; and assisting in the distribution of that information to interested parties as needed.
  • Providing interim reports to the Director of Research Support on the status of activities as well as details of awards submitted and in the preparation stage.
  • Reviewing all material budget variances with the appropriate senior staff and developing appropriate plans of corrective action.
  • Preparing monthly financial reports for grants management.
  • Assisting in the preparation of grant reports for senior management.
  • Developing and maintaining grant allocation systems.
  • Managing monthly overhead and allocation tables and re-allocating grant funds based on period reports.
  • Assisting with the annual budget, making recommendations for budget modifications as appropriate.
  • Approving all disbursement requests for accuracy in coding and availability of funds prior to commitment of funds.
  • Establishing and continuously assessing the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with the University of Miami policies and procedures. Ensuring employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
  • Monitoring effort reporting for faculty and staff.

The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a closely related field of study. At least five years of relevant work experience. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to work on project teams and execute work plans with the goal of improving department performance and/or providing quality customer service. Ability to handle multiple demands, prioritize tasks and meet the demands of deadlines. Ability to be a team player and work in a collaborative environment. Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word and very comfortable with systems in general.
