The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology is seeking candidates for a faculty position at the level of Research Assistant Professor. - LeadershipBe a team-leaderInitiate discussions on the unmet needs in gene therapy and mitochondrial research including potential regenerative therapies, and continued to develop innovative animal models to address these needs when appropriateContinue to bridge the communication gap between clinicians’ needs and basic science researchers in elaborating translational researchContinue to present at local, national, and international meetings on the work performed at the ocular Gene therapy research laboratory and engage in scientific networking to mold the mission of the centerAssemble multidisciplinary teams with the necessary knowledge base to advance projects to their defined endpointsSet research project priorities and make final decisions on the direction and experimental design of research projects- AdministrativeEnsuring laboratories are in compliance with all institutional, local and federal guidelines appropriate to their biosafety level classificationElaborating Lab-specific biosafety and chemical safety protocolsWorking with IRB and IACUC to elaborate and approve protocols needed for laboratory work. Ensure compliance of protocols by all members of the laboratoryEnsuring personnel are properly trained and certified for the procedures they are expected to performManage laboratory budget allocation to support ongoing research projects and distribute funds according to each projects’ progress and expected growthSeek and secure extramural funding whenever possible to ensure the continued maintenance and growth of the ocular gene therapy laboratoryRecord-keeping- ResearchTo continue to develop a focused translational gene therapy research program directed by your interests and expertise that will contribute to the advancement of our knowledge and improve care of patients with mitochondrial diseases Writing and submission of internal and extramural grant proposals to help support and develop the research activities of the ocular gene therapy laboratory-TeachingTo actively participate in the training of our students, residents, and research fellows.Participate in the Master of Science in Vision Science and Investigative OphthalmologyAssist faculty and collaboration in the design and implementation of research projects
