The University of Miami (UM) is considered among the top tier institutions of higher education in the U.S. for its academic excellence, superior medical care, and cutting-edge research. At the U, we are committed to attracting a talented workforce to support our common purpose of transforming lives through teaching, research, and service. Through our values of Diversity, Integrity, Responsibility, Excellence, Compassion, Creativity and Teamwork (DIRECCT) we strive to create an environment where everyone contributes in making UM a great place to work. We are one of the largest private employers in Miami-Dade County; home to more than 13,400 faculty and staff from all over the world.

Our group is seeking a full-time faculty position at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor in Hematopathology. Applicants should be board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology, subspecialty trained and board certified or eligible in hematopathology, and have a clinical and/or academic record of accomplishment in hematopathology. Additional training or experience in Molecular Diagnostics or Flow Cytometry is highly desirable. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong background and interest in the study and diagnosis of myeloid neoplasms. In addition to clinical responsibilities and clinical/translational research, the new faculty is expected to play an active role in teaching and training pathology residents and hematopathology fellows. This position will join a highly interactive team of 4 hematopathologists.

The University of Miami Hematopathology Service is directly responsible for all diagnostic hematopathology for both Jackson Health System and UHealth including  the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) and satelites, UHealth Tower, Lennar Founation Medical Center and the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. We also provide diagnostic hematopathology services for several outside hospitals and laboratories and receive material in consultation from multiple regional hospitals. In addition to diagnostic adult and pediatric lymph node/tissue and bone marrow services, Hematopathology provides medical direction for two Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratories, a molecular laboratory, a bone marrow laboratory and the general hematology laboratories at several locations.

Our hematopathology team is focused on providing excellence in the diagnosis and care of patients with hematologic diseases in South Florida. Our practice is busy with a high number of patients being evaluated and treated for hematopoietic diseases in all of our centers. Approximately, we review 1,800 bone marrow biopsies per year, about 3,000 tissue specimens, 3,500 flow cytometry cases and almost 3,000 peripheral blood smears. In fact, the volume and the complexity of our hematopathology cases has steadily increased during the las 4 years and is expected to increase in the years to come. We are also interested in consolidating our ongoing translational research efforts with the goal of developing a successful and productive translational research activity in hematopathology in the next few years. The number of independent investigators with interests in hematological neoplasms, including basic scientists and medical oncologists, has been steadily increasing at UMH and SCCC and is an extremely valuable asset that our institution offers.
