We are one of the largest private employers in Miami-Dade County; home to more than 13,400 faculty and staff from all over the world.The Registered Nurse 2 is responsible for clinical assessment, triage and nursing care for students receiving care at the University of Miami Student Health Service. In addition to providing direct patient care, responsibilities include supervising triage staff, performing nursing support functions and representing the triage area in interactions with other clinic supervisors and staff. The successful candidate will be able to create and maintain an environment of patient-focused care, anticipating and appropriately responding to student needs and ensuring that the student’s overall experience meets or exceeds standards of medical care. The Registered Nurse 2 reports to the Director of Student Health.

Clinical Responsibilities:
•Monitor EMR triage/appointment screen and prioritize patient intake according to visit reasons, available staff and established provider to maintain overall patient flow.
•Triage patients including patient verification, visit reason, recording vital signs and reviewing immunization compliance.
•Work with other triage staff to perform clinical support services including EKG, vision screening, ear lavage, wound care, glucose monitoring, nebulizer treatments, spirometry, pulse oximetry, IV insertion and oxygen administration.
•Respond to and assist with urgencies and emergencies, seeking assistance from medical providers and other as appropriate.
•Administer injections including immunizations, allergy injections, medications and PPD testing.
•Assist medical providers during procedures including suture and removal, I&D and gynecologic examinations.
•Participates in patient education and campus outreach programs including seasonal flu and medical student PPD campaigns.
•Assist with qualify review initiatives including follow-up of abnormal pap and others testing, follow-up of on-call answering service encounters, ER referrals and SACC reports.
•Performs CLIA waived testing (strep, flu, urine) during off peak times.

Clinical Support Responsibilities:
•Responsible for ordering and receiving vaccines and performing monthly inventory checks.
•Responsible for ordering all clinical supplies, supervising and assisting with stocking of patient rooms and adhering to inventory pars.
•Responsible for daily inspections of crash cart and AED machine.
•Responsible for adhering to all quality assurance and infection control guidelines including the University’s Environmental Health and Safety, Infection Control, OSHA and Joint Commission policies and procedures.
•Other duties as assigned including hurricane duty and other after hours or weekend activities emergencies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
•Supervises triage staff including scheduling, time approvals and performance reviews.
•Participates in recruitment and training of new triage staff.
•Responsible for scheduling triage staff weekly meetings including ongoing training and skill assessment.
•Maintains and updates staff bulletin boards with current federal requirements regarding workplace employee rights and current performance improvement projects.
•Recommends and implements innovative nursing practices to improve patient care and workflow.

Position Requirements:
•State of Florida Registered Nurse License.
•Five years related experience in a medical setting.
•BLS certification.
•Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
•Strong leadership skills and ability to work with young adults and mid-level providers.
•Able to work efficiently under time constraints while providing quality clinical care and excellent customer service.
•Knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications.
