As an Associate level Accounting Assistant assigned to the Accounts Payable Department, this position will be responsible for the daily processing and payment of invoices and check requests. Such processing includes assessing the completeness of the supporting documentation to include verification of the appropriate levels of approval as well as proper coding in a multi-departmental, high volume environment. This position requires a true customer service attitude and ongoing communication with departments and vendors regarding invoices, purchase orders, credit memos, past due notices and other check request documentation. Duties will also include scanning and indexing documents into imaging system for electronic file storage and responding to information requests pertaining to such documents. Initial assignments will be concentrated on payables pertaining to DineWest and other Auxiliary Enterprises such as the Bookstore, to be followed by cross-training for coverage in other areas.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and one to two years of experience working in an accounting environment. Candidates with experience working in a general office setting requiring ongoing interaction with accounts payable or accounting departments may also be considered. A working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work with confidential information. Must be able to work both independently and as a team member to deal with high volumes and be flexible in dealing with changing demands and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

1 to 2 years of experience in Accounts Payable, particularly in a multi-department environment. Experience using PeopleSoft. Experience using Fortis or other document retrieval systems. Progress towards a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

Salary $13.28 minimum - $15.93 midpoint (Hourly) Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Ability to move about the office freely, communicate without restrictions, lift up to 25 pounds, and sit for long periods of time. Job may require extended hours during peak work periods as determined by the Director of Accounting.
