Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) invites applications and nominations for the position of Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

UNO’s reputation for academic excellence, opportunity, and affordability has fueled record enrollment growth to almost 16,000 students. UNO’s international student body includes more underrepresented students than any other campus in the NU system; nearly half of the undergraduate students are first-generation and a tenth are military-affiliated. Its 1,590 full-time and 604 part-time faculty members are dedicated to student success and serving the city, state, and region. UNO offers nationally recognized bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, and the university’s growing applied and basic research portfolio includes a university-affiliated research center with funding from the U.S. Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and NASA, among other agencies. The Senior Vice Chancellor is the university’s chief academic officer and second highest ranking university official. Reporting to the Chancellor, the Senior Vice Chancellor will fortify a shared vision and identity for UNO and inspire a reinvigorated commitment to academic excellence, discovery, and a student-centered learning experience.

Responsible for six colleges and their respective academic departments and programs, the Senior Vice Chancellor leads or oversees strategic planning; academic policy development and implementation; faculty appointment, promotion, and tenure processes; community engagement; collaborations across the NU system, including with UNMC and the University of Nebraska Foundation; and numerous budgets to support academic priorities. Consistent with UNO’s commitment to shared governance, the Senior Vice Chancellor works closely with the Faculty Senate and confers often with the UNO Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).

In the midst of remarkable growth, and under the leadership of a single chancellor responsible for both UNO and UNMC, the university is an innovative model of a public urban research university. An earned terminal degree with evidence of scholarly, professional, or creative achievement commensurate with tenure as a full professor at a doctoral university are required.
