Essential Job Duties: The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will assist the Principal Investigator (Dr. Ferruzzi) in the Plants for Human Health Institute, by leading and conducting research, general laboratory management, and provide some mentoring of graduate students as appropriate. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in the group related understating the impact of plant secondary metabolites on food quality and human health.
Department Required Skills: * Doctoral Degree in Food Science, Nutrition Science, Chemistry/Biochemistry or related field. * Knowledge in food science and technology, analytical chemistry techniques as appropriate for characterization of plant derived phytochemicals in foods and biological matrices. * Ability to train and supervise students, etc. * Demonstrate the ability to work independently and creatively. * Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to develop manuscripts, grant proposals and presentations.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Ability to lead complex research projects with knowledge of advanced analytical chemistry techniques as appropriate. * Experience in extraction and analysis of phytochemicals in foods and biological tissues. * Experience working with phytochemical ingredient systems including emulsions, encapsulants, plant based protein carriers. * Working experience in liquid chromatography, in vitro digestion models and mammalian cell culture.
