Professional Research Assistant

Professional Research Assistant:

The position will provide histology support for the Research Histology Shared Resource, and the UC Denver Biorepository Core Facility. It requires excellent histologic skill in gross dissection, tissue processing, microtomy, tissue microdissection, tissue microarray construction and staining including routine, special stains, and immunohistochemistry in a high volume environment.

Additional duties include:

Translational research coordination using human specimens, plus data management of patient identifiable information. This position will support ongoing research for approximately 200 clients. The most active clients perform research in pulmonary fibrosis, bone regeneration, and cell signaling pathways in cancer that are evaluated by H&E, various special stains, and custom immunohistochemistry.

Daily duties will include, but are not limited to, all aspects of routine histology of paraffin and frozen tissue including gross dissection, paraffin processing, embedding, sectioning (paraffin and frozen), tissue microdissection, tissue microarray constructions, H&E, special stains, immunohistochemistry, and antibody optimizations under the supervision of the laboratory supervisor. Additional duties include processing specimens for biobanking and document preparation for College of American Pathologists accreditation.

A Histologist utilizes specific scientific/medical equipment such as a tissue processor, microtome, automated stainers, and general laboratory equipment to prepare tissues for microscopic evaluation. The Histologist will be responsible for proper use of all equipment, including maintenance of large volumes of hazardous reagents (weighing up to 45 lbs). He/she must adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the University of Colorado Denver Environmental Health and Safety Division as well as Occupational Health. The Histologist must adhere to good laboratory practice and perform tasks per standard operating procedures as determined by the laboratory supervisor.

Hours of Operation: 9am to 5:30pm

Minimum Requirements:

BA/BS, HT/HTL certification from ASCP, minimum 3-5 years of histology experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Qualification in Immunohistochemistry (QIHC).
