Professional Tutor, Math Center, PT

Job description

The Professional Tutor is responsible for one-on-one and small group instruction with students. S/He will exhibit patience and a positive attitude in establishing an encouraging learning environment. The Professional Tutor will possess good organizational skills and be able to explain concepts to others effectively.

This is an hourly, part-time position.

1. Qualifications: .

A. Educational Background: Associates degree required, Bachelors or Masters degree preferred.

B. Experience: Experience in the tutoring/peer tutoring of mathematics at a high school or college level. Proven experience with tutoring in courses in the Calculus sequence preferred.

2. Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and competence in the subject matter.
  • Provide direct instructional assistance to students individually and/or in small groups.
  • Support students to develop and meet their academic goals.
  • Willingness to tutor according to the techniques presented in class.
  • Work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Collaborate with the Math Center Coordinator regarding best-practice techniques.
  • Participate in tutor training and development sessions as required.
  • Maintain and record student and usage records as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
