Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required or ability to earn one within 12 months.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible administrative work which includes student financial aid functions or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Experience navigating complex regulatory requirements. Demonstrated strong organizational, analytical, detail, and communication skills. Preferred qualifications would be 4 years of progressively responsible work in a financial aid office with experience advising students and working in a fast paced environment.

-Knowledge of federal, state, NCAA, and institutional financial aid regulatory requirements.
-Proven record of working with complex situations that require sensitivity to unique family circumstances.
-Ability to speak multiple languages is preferred.
-Excellent in providing and coaching others in professional, courteous, and tactful service delivery while establishing and maintaining harmonious and effective work relations with students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
-Ability to effectively manage constituents that may have difficult financial aid queries and may be experiencing distress that could result in occasional confrontational situations.
-Ability to work under pressure.
-Ability to set priorities and manage multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously.
-Skill in the operation of standard office equipment and related software in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner.
-Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information.

Position Summary:

The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) endeavors to generate, evaluate, and implement strategic initiatives that create sustainable, long-term improvements to the University of Wisconsin - Madison's financial aid programs and in alignment with OSFA's student-centric mission, vision, and goals. The Financial Aid Advisor is dedicated to providing front line service for customers of OSFA in alignment with the initiatives and efficient procedures of advising students. This position will serve as a consistent support to the Front Desk Supervisor and team of student employees, and will assist in ensuring all federal, state, NCAA, and institutional regulatory requirements are met. The Financial Aid Advisor also must continually strive to improve advising practices that serve students, their families, and the campus community. The Financial Aid Advisor will report to the Advising Coordinator and work in conjunction with the Advising Team. The Advising Team supports current student success and graduation as it relates to financial aid in partnership with various programs, schools, and colleges across campus.
