SENIOR BUSINESS SYSTEMS ANALYST

Occupational Summary
Senior data and systems analyst in the School of Medicine Data Management and Analytics Team in the Finance Office responsible for furthering the strategic goals and priorities of the School through data collection and analysis, data visualization, action-oriented reporting, strategic thinking, and recommendations for improving business processes and reporting systems. The Senior Business Systems Analyst will collaborate with stakeholders across missions, departments and school administration, creating a more data-driven environment and informed decision making.

Work Performed
  1. Data Reporting
  • Act as a key resource for all School of Medicine Tableau reporting needs.
  • Work with staff overseeing administrative systems to develop verified data extracts designed to serve multiple constituents and reporting requirements. Document metadata and update schedules for standard data extracts.
  • Develop database, queries, dashboards and reports required to create a Tableau-based data hub to drive management and senior administration decision-making.
  • Tailor dashboards and security individually for School- and Department-level administration.
  • Manage the development, rollout, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of reports, visualizations, and self-service business intelligence solutions for stakeholders across the School.
  1. Report Design and Decision Support
  • Create database tools for supporting and driving key business decisions.
  • Ensures that current business processes and constraints relating to key institutional systems, databases and tools are understood.
  • Acts as a reporting/Tableau liaison between the School, departments/centers/institutes and various central administration units that manage data.
  • Collaborate with other school and department Tableau developers and users
  • Develops and manages roll-out plans for reporting solutions.
  • Gather user requirements and design the functional specifications for analytical reports and dashboards as needed.
  • Think creatively, moving beyond questions asked by stakeholders, to identify opportunities for improved business efficiency and work with stakeholders to implement change.
  • Be a thought leader on data mining and analysis to uncover trends and correlations to develop insights that can materially improve School-wide decisions across all missions and departments.
  1. Training and Support
  • Plan and execute data-related presentations for School/Department/Center/Institute leadership as needed.
  • Assist School and Department/Center/Institute leadership with implementation of business intelligence reporting tools and related systems.
  • Provides Tableau support and training to these customers.

Education

Work requires a Bachelors Degree.

Experience

Work requires 5 years of experience in performing a full range of tasks associated with business systems. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Preferred Qualifications

Tableau training and certification (Tableau Desktop 10 and/or Tableau Server 10). Skills: Excellent statistical and analytical abilities, deep knowledge of business intelligence solutions and data engineering practices as well as outstanding business acumen and an ability to work with stakeholders across diverse missions. Proficiency with Tableau data visualization software required. Excellent organizational, planning, prioritization and decision-making skills. Proven analytical, detail-oriented and problem solving skills. Knowledge of continuous quality improvement theory and methodology. Technical expertise using SAP Business Warehouse, SPS-Decision Support, Tableau (or similar business intelligence tool), MS Excel and MS Access, SQL, SAS and Relational Databases. Proficiency with Tableau data visualization software required. Self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, with strong attention to detail, an ability to work in a fast- paced and ever-changing environment, and driven by a desire to innovate in this space.
