Department

The Public Relations Specialist manages media relations for The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art.

Responsibilities will include:

Writes news releases, media alerts, and PSAs; creates press kit materials suitable for the media. Maintains media distribution lists. Arranges and leads tours of Museum campus for visiting media. Uses golf cart for tours and visiting media. Manages internal communication initiatives.

Writes, edits, and approves website static content. Assists in the development of positioning statements, key messages, and responses to public inquiry.

Manages Speakers Bureau Program. Plans and executes a comprehensive Speakers Bureau Program in line with annual Museum objectives. Contacts organizations to schedule speaking engagements. Trains volunteers. Prepares materials for distribution. Reports on program activities to Marketing Director.

Manages Crisis Communication. Primary contact for media inquiries, interviews, and all internal communications relating to a crisis. Prepares talking points for Executive Director, Marketing Director, Board of Directors, and Senior Staff.

Plans media relations budget.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years of experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to 6 years.

Valid driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

Knowledge of public relations practices.

Knowledge of current media technology and trends.

Ability to write and/or proofread and edit written word and/or information in various formats including AP style.

Knowledge of applicable computer applications, social media, and computer functions.

Skill in public speaking.

Preferred

Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of relevant experience.

Accreditation in Public Relations (APR).

Anticipated Salary Range

Anticipated salary will be low to mid $40,000s + Florida state benefits available

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.

Soft Money Funded Position

This position is time-limited based on soft money funding, with renewal contingent upon available funds and the needs of the University.

Schedule

Primary working hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; however weekends, evenings, and holidays may be required per the needs of the Ringling.

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
